How to Fix Auto Unlock Not Working on MacOS and Apple Watch ?

After updating to macOS Sierra, users can unlock the Mac using their Apple Watch. It’s a shiny feature, named Auto Lock. This feature was first introduced at the WWDC keynote. Many people managed to enable Auto Lock a test drive using their Apple Watch on watchOS 3 beta 2 and Macbook running macOS Sierra beta.
Apple has made anything as easy as possible; some users still have trouble in giving Auto Lock to work on their Mac and Apple Watch. So if you are in the same situation, we’ll show you how to fix that problem in this post
Fix Auto Unlock Not Working on macOS and Apple Watch
If the Auto Lock feature doesn’t work on your Apple Watch or macOS, here are a few things you can do to fix that problem.
  1. Make sure your Apple Watch is run watchOS 3 beta 2 or higher.
  2. Your Mac needs to run on macOS Sierra Developer Preview Seed 2 or higher
  3. Activate Two-Factor Authentication for your Apple ID
  4. Auto Unlock will not work unless you wear the Apple Watch on your wrist
  5. If your Mac jus awakes on the lock screen, click on Cancel to enable Auto Unlock
If you meet the requirements, then the Auto Lock should work as normal. In case you see the error message saying, “Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch,” it means your Keychain is off or you should disable and enable Handoff again in Settings > General.
Check If Your Mac Compatible with Auto Lock?
Another important thing you should note that not all Macs is compatible the Auto Lock feature. So you should check if your Mac supports Auto Lock on the Apple Watch. To do this:
  1. First, click on the Apple logo at the top left-hand corner.
  2. Next select About This Mac
  3. Click on System Report under the Overview page
  4. Select Wi-Fi option and search for Auto Unlock from the sidebar.
  5. If your Mac does support this function, it will say “Supported”.
